Prek

This month, Pre-K explored the significance of Ramadan and created their own handmade Quranic Alphabet Book. In Social Studies, they learned fascinating facts about the states of Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Missouri. The focus letters for the month were Vv, Ww, and Xx, with interactive activities like Show & Tell every Friday to encourage sharing and participation.

Pre-K 4 Students have made great progress in sight word recognition, mastering vowels, and reading CVC words. In math, they are exploring concepts like comparing objects and using ten frames for counting.

Pre-K 3 This class has been working on writing their names, recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters, and learning letter sounds and formation. In math, they are practicing counting, identifying numbers 11-20, and selecting the correct number through coloring or circling activities

. Pre-K 2 Students are engaged in fun, hands-on activities that support their learning in an interactive and engaging way.

Kindergarten

n math, we started chapter 12 practicing counting by tens all the way to 100. We have created groups of ten using pipe cleaners and beads to visualize our groups.

In ELA, we have read and discussed various stories on a milkman, a mother duck, machines we use at home, and a human being that is best friends with an alien. We have used these stories to review story elements, predict outcomes, and compare and contrast characters. We have also completed various writing prompts including describing our perfect day and describing the biggest animal we’ve ever seen.

In Islamic studies, we discussed Eid-al Adha as we glued cotton balls to a picture of a sheep. We discussed tawaf as we finger painted 7 circles around the Kaaba. We painted Kaaba boxes as we discussed the importance of giving charity. We also learned two new Quran verses (14:7) (31:14).

In science, we learned about various environments including beaches, forests, mountains, and prairies. We created beautiful watercolor paintings by placing watercolors on the paper and blowing through a straw to spread the colors. We also discussed properties of rocks and compared rocks and seashells. Then, we learned about how to care for the Earth as we discussed reducing, reusing, recycling, and littering. We then painted flowers that were cut from toilet paper tubes.

Grade 1 and 2

For the month of March, our Science unit focused on Acids and Bases. Students had fun with hands-on experiments, testing household items using a pH chart and a color-changing grape juice indicator. They discovered that lemon juice and vinegar are acids, baking soda and soap are bases, and water and saltwater are neutral. We also tested milk (slightly acidic), soda (acidic), and detergent (strongly basic). The students were excited to see the fizzy reaction when mixing vinegar (acid) with baking soda (base)!

In Islamic Studies, students learned about the benefits of Ramadan, deepened their understanding of spirituality in Islam, and spent more time perfecting different parts of Salah

In ELA our second graders learned about the Great Wall of China and different holidays celebrated around the world. We read with expression and have been reviewing the phonics concepts we have learned so far.

Our first graders learned about Whale Sharks and created a diagram labelling different parts and their importance. They also learned about the Eid traditions of different people and compared it to their own. They reviewed homophones and learned about heteronyms.

In Math, the second graders learned about money (adding and subtracting and making change) and dove into fractions. Our first graders worked with numbers to 40 and then started a pre division concept of breaking items into equal groups. They have really grasped this concept well!

Grade 3

This month we started working on our class book. Students began the writing process of planning and working on their rough draft. Students will begin writing soon.

We also began practicing for our IOWA test in April. In math we started practicing using the metric system. Students had to recall counting to 1000 from back in the beginning of the year and add multiplication and division that we focused on at the end of last year and beginning of this one. We are moving into geometry next. In science we continued with forces talking about what keeps us upright and lets us move.

We did a painting using gravity, and demonstrated how friction warms things up. We also played with gravity and other forces to try and keep balloons in the air without touching them.

In Islamic studies we focused on the month of Ramadan and how we can implement what we learned in the majlis. We focused on our akhlaq and how we should treat others.
